Getting To Know the Work of a Travel Agent

For people who are fond of traveling to different places, visiting marvelous beaches, and taking a trip to the most exotic island paradise, the job of a travel agent seems to be a far better job than anything else.

However, some people contend that the viability of a travel agent being a lucrative work has lessened due to the emergence of the Internet.

Nowadays, people can easily plan their vacation trips, acquire their tickets, and make their own plans and reservation through the Internet.

That is why some financial analysts have concluded that as the need for travel agents fall off, their wages deteriorates as well, considering the fact that it is already low. The median yearly salary of travel agents amount to $26,630, that was in 2002. The top 10% of the travel agents in the US were reported to have a salary of $41,660 or more. While the remaining half of the travel agents is currently earning between $20,800 and $33,580. All of these were bases on the U.S. Department Labor reports.

The bottom line is that travel agents are really not earning much. The only benefits they get are the discounts and special privileges on travel. Funny thing is, with their present salaries, travel agents may not even use these benefits because they cannot even afford to travel.

However, there are still those who want to become a travel agent in spite of everything. So, for those who really insist on becoming a travel agent, heres how to do it.

1. A second language is a must for those who want to become a travel agent. Travel agents deal with different nationalities and a second language may just be handy in the future.

2. It is a must for every would-be travel agent to undergo 6-12 week training on how to become a travel agent. This includes all the basics of the job.

3. Computer literacy is also important because all of the transaction, invoices, and reports are done through computer utilization.

4. Knowledge on up-to-date information about the trends in the business. Also, it is a must for every travel agent to know the best places to go.

5. It would be better for those who want to become a travel agent to have their certification as a Certified Travel Counselor. This is an added value to their work.

Becoming a travel agent is entirely dependent on the persons interest. So, whether the salary is low or high, as long as the person is happy with the job, then, there wouldnt be any qualms for it.

The Affordable but Comfortable Tropical Honeymoon: Tip List

- Schedule your departure day two days after the wedding to give you ample time for rest after the activities and the celebrations. If you must travel immediately, remember to leave in the middle of the day and not the early morning so youll get a good nights sleep.

- Ask your travel Agent for Honeymoon Packages, these usually offer the best destinations for honeymooners, not to mention discounts and freebies.

- Never, ever overbook day trips, youre not just traveling, youre with your new Spouse, better save up some energy for the nights fireworks.

- Dont be afraid to ask questions, ask about certain perks, events.

- In addition to the above, dont be afraid to request extra stuff, like a big bathtub, a double bed, or a romantic view.

- Dont forget to bring your marriage Certificate along with you, especially if the name of the bride is already under her husbands name.

- Pack your camera and lots of film; you wont want to miss anything. You might also want to pack a disposable underwater camera and extra batteries, these are absurdly pricey in tourist spots, and you wouldnt want to overspend.

- Mention to anyone, especially in the caf or in the tour boat, that youre on your honeymoon, yes this may sound a bit embarrassing, but some restaurants give extras like free drinks or gifts for honeymooners. This also works for birthday celebrants.

- If you want an active honeymoon, research and prepare for water sports; the tropics are a great place, to learn them, always remember to consult hubby before you try one though.

- Stock up on sun protection. The higher the SPF the better, as youll probably be spending whole days out in the sun; you wouldnt want to get skin cancer after just two weeks of marriage.

- Some travel agencies include island hopping trips, these are great ways to explore, and enjoy. This is especially good because youll get a change in scenery, and wont easily get bored, especially if you have an extended honeymoon.

- Even if your valuables are inside your hotel room, keep them under lock, and if you decide to bring them with you, always watch out for stray pickpockets.

- Bring with you a stock of candles and massage oils that you can place inside your hotel room for that romantic evening after touring and swimming

Tips for the right holiday travel package

It is not usually wise to be traveling during holidays as these are the times when almost every other person in the world is traveling. It is of course best to plan ahead or book ahead and go to your destination early to avoid all the hassle but if youre one of those last minute people or probably one of those who cant really avoid it, you should follow the next few tips for a better journey and maybe a cheaper stay.

- Holiday travel packages were never made with only one person in mind; no two people are alike, keep this in mind because the agencies that packed them have kept these in mind, use this fact to haggle your way into cheaper or sometimes better deals. Even if there are ready made packages, you can ask for extra perks especially if youre staying for more than a week.

- Be careful of travel agents. Travel agents may give you the best deal for your package, which normally include airfare, lodgings and transportation, but a really good agent can be really flexible. One example would be if you want a rental car for the first half of your trip but you want to get rid of it by the second half, a good agent can arrange this for you, sometimes for a cheaper price.

- Be sure that the package you want is available, you dont want to get pulled into something that ends up being sold out, some people give out too-good-to-be-true packages which end up being sold out in the end, so before you make a deal or transfer a morsel of cash, make sure that it is still available.

- Be sure to know exactly what airline and route your taking, you wont want those unpleasant layovers which can be a real pain, not to mention delay your schedule.

- A good sign of a good package is one that is very flexible, as said before, no two people are alike, and a good package should reflect that, it should allow you to choose between destinations, as well as brands and lodgings without changing the price. A choice in which rental car to take is also a sign of a good package.

- Finally, its good to ask for discounts that you might get if you do certain stuff, like stay in the hotel for more than a week, or sign up on the internet instead of by phone. Research first before you cough up the money for down-payment; make sure youve exhausted all possible discount generating ways before you decide on a package.

Planning your own educational trip

If its just for school, for your kids or for the neighborhood kids, its nice to have a purposeful educational trip that will surely be enjoyed by the children as well as teach them. Of course there is the usual trip to the museum or the so-so factory, but educational travel doesnt necessarily end with the destination, one should also consider the preparations as well as the child before you uproot them from their playgrounds.

Who should plan the Trip?

If the trip is an out of school activity, whether organized by you or the neighborhood parents, there should always be somebody or a group of people willing to dedicate a snippet of their time to organizing, everything, destination, transportation, food, lodgings (if any) as well as the children involved.

What to Bring

A pack list is also essential before a trip. Here are a few things that should be in your or your childs bag when you go on an educational trip.

- Snacks there should be lots of drinks and walk foods that you can eat even while walking.

- First aid kit an accident can easily happen, a small trip or a scratch should be mended easily. A medicine pack can also be handy for parents who develop headaches, or for children with stomach upset.

- Extra clothes children are very active, and sometimes even parents can be over-active, so it is necessary that both bring a set of clothes for those unexpected spills.

- Walkie talkie If your child can handle it, a walkie-talkie or a cellular phone can be very useful if he gets lost.

- Name tag Attach a name tag to his shirt or to his bag containing your contact number (without a name) so that whoever finds him can contact you.

- One of his favorite toys A good thing to distract a child when he gets uneasy during travel would be one of his favorite toys.

- Wipes and tissue- For that easy cleanup whenever you need it.

When you get there

Fall in line, and make travel buddys of two or three; the one buddy should be responsible for the other so as to prevent anyone getting left behind. This is best done with kids who dont normally play together so they can bond and get to know each other more.

On the trip home

Encourage sleeping; after a long walk children can get cranky when tired, so bring some milk with you so they can sleep through the trip home.

Disney World Traveling

Disney World is probably the most popular theme park in the world, attractions, rides, characters, the works, there is no doubt that nobody goes to Disney World to get headaches. To prevent unnecessary muscle and head pain, it is best to be prepared.

Proper Season

It is best to go to Disney World during off season, which is roughly around early January to mid February, or after Labor Day through mid December. During off season, there are less people, less congestion and less headaches. Whats more, it rarely gets cold in Florida, even during winter season, and it gets swelteringly hot and humid during summer, so winter, really is the time to go.

The Proper Lodgings

Although it is cheaper to stay in hotels outside of Disney World, the extra cash youll have to cough up if you stay inside is more than made up for by the comfort and convenience of an inside stay.

Imagine traveling from your room, then going through the 47 square mile area that is Disney World, then traveling back to your hotel exhausting isnt it?

The Proper Schedule

Where to actually go once you get there is determined by your choice of companions, kids, teenagers or adults.

Kids

Go through Cinderellas Castle and Visit Fantasy Land or Mickeys Toon Town, the little tots will surely love all the characters roaming around that area. The rides in these parts are built for 6 year olds and below, but mommy or daddy can still squeeze themselves in if they want.

Adults or Teens

A trip to the Magic Kingdom may be in order if youre with big kids. You can go to Splash Mountain to get wet or to Space Mountain to get some indoor rollercoaster, and fun for the bumpy person, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad should be enough to satisfy their taste for adventure.

Rides for Everyone

If you want something that everyone can enjoy, a ride in the Walt Disney World Railroad, can rest those tired feet and at the same time give you an enjoyable view of Magic Kingdom.

Haunted Mansion, although not really for very young kids, can be a thrill for toddlers, its a ride not a walk through so theres no tripping or running involved.

For relaxing walks, try the Tiki Room Show or the Swiss family Tree House.

The Proper Dining Experience

For cute snacks, try the Aloha Isle inside Adventureland, they conjure up creative drinks and snacks, a good place to try something cute and different.

Cosmic Rays Starlight Cafe provides a cool indoor dining area between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland where you can enjoy your food to your hearts content.

Create your own travel discounts

Hotel and rental car owners dont just offer you discounts at random, you have to ask for it work for it, and sometimes, these discounts arent even worth it, well unless youre looking to traveling during off peak season where there is at most a 50% discount. But lets face it, we travel during peak season because this is the season when we actually have time to travel. So aside from waiting for your favorite hotels tirade of discounts during off peak season, when you cant really travel and then end up not traveling at all, why not take the initiative and find your own ways to cheap travel, make your own discount.

- Check detour flights other than the straight one youre bound to get when you inquire. You can get cheaper overall prices if you choose to book two flights instead of one. Some people have been able to save as much as $2000 by doing this.

- It is always better to buy food at the grocery and cook it yourself rather than eating everyday at a restaurant. You wont want to spend all of your pocket money on food. Restaurants tend to have cheap and sometimes unhealthy food, ensure your own health as well as your pockets health by cooking your own, that is, after all, the reason why theres a stove in your hotel room.

- Travel to places which boast of natural beauty but have lower costs of living, prices here tend to be lower. Take the Philippines or Malaysia for example, both have great views and tourist spots but come without the hassle of overpricing, English speaking natives are also a plus for these countries.

- If youre planning to stay for more than a week, call the hotel that youd want to stay in and ask for week long stay discounts, these can range for percentages off your room price or even a free day.

- Package deals usually save a lot, airfare and lodgings combined into one are usually cheaper compared to paying for them separately. Some travel agencies even provide trio packages which include airfare, hotel and car rental, you can save a lot if you have the industriousness to canvass.

- Find web-only discounts or coupons which some hotels and airline owners provide especially for those willing to reserve online. You can save as much as 50% on your travel costs by going this way.

Checking accessories that you need in traveling

So, finally you have found the time for your deserving break. You have already planned what to do on the big trip. Everything seems to be prepared. But what happens when you forget your favorite digicam and you only discovered it when youre already nearing the point of your destination?

Why does it happen that every time you go out of town, you always forget an item or accessory that you only remember after you left the house? If you are lucky, you usually forget small things like a toothbrush, where you can buy one in the nearest store.

But what happens if you forget, for example, your digicam? Or how about your raincoat in a rainy season? How about the travel supplies you usually forget? If youre lucky, its a simple accessory like a toothbrush, which any hotel will have in their gift shop. But what if you forgot a more important product, for example, a rain coat? Or a backpack youll be using for a hiking trip?

What are all the travel accessories you need?

When going on trips, whether it is big or small, check out if you have a complete set of your travel accessories. What accessories should I bring? Among the most obvious are:

- Suitcases

- Travel clothing

- Toiletries

-Travel appliances (electric razor, travel alarm, hairdryer)

These, however, are just the basic accessories. You will see that the more you travel, the more you need things other than suitcases, toiletries, and travel clothing and appliances. For example, did you think that you should have brought a small nice neck pillow in a long train ride or flight? Or, what if you get bruised from a hiking trip, do you have a first-aid kit close at hand?

Here are some accessories that you might want to bring when you take your next trip:

- Binoculars

- Music player

- Mini-flashlight

- Camera

- Clothing steamer

- Mini-umbrella

- Luggage rack

- Door alarm

- First-aid kit

It would not be surprising that you might have additional options to this list, or you might have a list entirely different from the list above. And when you check out stores and Internet sites that sell travel accessories, you would learn that there are many products out there that you thought you never needed but turned out to be the contrary!

Some tips on backpacking

Travelers around the world enjoy seeing the sights and wonders of different places with only a backpack for all the things they need. Because they only have a pack on their backs, the possibilities of new sightseeing and activity adventures are limitless.

But of course, before you head for a faraway hiking adventure with your backpack, you must make sure that you bring all the things you need to put in your backpack. Below is a checklist that will make your backpacking adventure a pleasant experience.

- Backpack

Of course, how can you go for a wild backpacking activity without a backpack! Pick one that is comfortable and fits well on you. A properly fitted backpack is essential. You are going hiking and the last thing you need is a backpack that is gouging into your shoulders. Make sure your is fitted properly.

- Quick Drying Towel

Widely available in many stores. You dont want a heavy, damp towel on your backpack, do you?

- Walking Shoes

Pick comfortable shoes as you would learn soon enough that walking would be a major part in your backpacking adventure.

- Underwear and socks

These go without saying.

- Long Underwear

This depends on the season and place where you are traveling. You might also wear your long underwear when you stay in hotels that do not have adequate well-heating systems.

- Pillow Case

Pillow case is an essential thing to keep when you stay in backpacker hotels.

- Sleeping Bag

When you stay in backpacker hotels. Select a lightweight sleeping bag. Down is the best type of sleeping bag. Yes, they do cost a bit more, but the prices is well worth it. Feathers are very light and you can compress a down into a very small package.

- Passport

Dont even think of leaving the country without it.

- Spy Wallet

So that you could be able to divide up the money that you have just in case.

- Day Pack

Most backpacks have a detachable daypack.

- Camera

A digicam may be better, but bulkier and heavier to carry.

- Journal

For the writer and chronicler in you.

- Flip Flops

Useful when you take a shower.

- Travelers Checks

You can never be too sure with your money.

- Wet Wipes

Always come in handy. Easy to carry too.

- Landry Detergent

It might prove handy.

- Space Savers

- Rain Coat

Especially if you travel on a rainy season or youre going to tropical countries like those in Southeast Asia or South America.

- Lock

For the safety of your belongings.

- Band Aids

Its better to be prepared than not at all.

- Travel Guide

Try picking a comprehensive yet easy-to-carry travel guide.

- Personal items such as toothpaste, deodorant, soap, and shampoo

For hygienic purposes.

- Clothing

A tip: The night before you leave, check all clothes that you need. Then take only the half. Clothing simply weighs too much. Take only what you can carry at ease.

Wilderness Wisdom: Get those Camping Supplies Together!

Spending your vacation out in the wilderness is both enjoyable and rewarding. It is also an activity that need not be limited to your free time. In fact, any weekend can be devoted to a camping trip and this means that you should stock up on those camping supplies if you are a real camping enthusiast.

So where can you get camping supplies, and what should you store? To know where to begin and how to go about shopping, take note that there are nine main types of camping gear and supplies.

Tents Buy the number of tents you need, but keep an extra one in safe storage. Insects can get to the fabric and chew holes into it, so you should have extra tents just in case you suddenly find yourself out in the woods without a suitable roof over your head.

Lighting Equipment Stock up on batteries, and always keep rechargeable ones fully charged, so that your lighting equipment is always working. If you have rechargeable lamps, charge them completely and keep them clean, since dust can destroy circuits.

Light, Waterproof Clothing Buy this type of clothing in two sizes, one in your current size, and another at least two sizes bigger. This will allow you to layer your clothing just in case you find yourself in freezing cold without proper jackets or covering.

Tools Keep your hunting knives and wood-cutting materials sharp, and out of reach of children.

First Aid Kit Stock up on bandages and ointments, and make sure that the medicines and vitamins you carry have not gone past their expiration date.

Communication As with lighting, stock up on batteries for your walkie-talkies; make sure your cellular phones are completely charged; and carry extra, fully charged batteries for your equipment.

Toiletries Stock up on shampoos, soaps, and other cleaning materials.

Food Stock up on canned goods, and keep water bottles clean and filled with purified water. Make sure that the food you have on hand is fresh, with expiration dates at least one month away.

References and Guides Theres no need to stock up on your maps or compasses, but make sure that your map is the latest, updated one of your camping site.

For successful camping trips, simply stock up on these supplies and store them in a safe place. Keep the food fresh and clean, and the tents away from the insects. As long as you maintain the quality of your supplies, you can simply take them out of their storage space and pack them up for that next trip into the great outdoors.

There are campers who like RV camping better to experience nature with the amaneties of home.

According to a recent survey, 92% of individuals owning an RV affirmed that RVs are the only and best means to travel and go camping with the family, especially when with children.

Do rent a Recreational Vehicle for your short camping trip; it is the best means to survey your actual requirements before purchasing.

Here are safety guidelines for that memorable RV camping trip:

1.Take up a professional course in driving focused on the specialized requirements of efficiently and safety of operating your RV.

2.Practice your skills on roads with minimal traffic.

3.In the U.S., when you are already 62 years or over, you need to acquire a Golden Age passport; it will be your ticket for free wildlife, national monuments, parks, national recreation facilities and refuges access.

4.In tourist areas and peak seasons, make reservations at least 3 weeks ahead.

5.Checklist:

First aid kit

Packed meals

Canned foods

Ample supply of Purified drinking water

Toiletries (soap, shampoo, tissue)

Cooking essentials

Flashlights

Mosquito and bug repellant lotion or spray

Enough clothing

Fire extinguisher

Map, compass

Books, game boards, cards, puzzles

6.Park your RV under a shade.

7.Build your campfire away from the vehicle.

To build your campfire, begin with easy burning tinder like dry needles of pine, wood shavings, paper or tiny twigs.

Put your broken dry twigs carefully placed atop the tinder, which is where your will start.

Then place some sticks in a teepee style over the small twigs and tinder, making sure there is less space in between the sticks, tinder and teepee.

Once your fire rises up, add more twigs, then logs.

8.Safety on campfires. Make sure you attend to your campfire always and extinguish it before you go inside your RV to sleep by splashing water on it.

9.Before leaving the campsite, walk around completely your RV to examine that all electric wires, sewer and water are unhooked and check if the Television antenna is put down.

Likewise, clean around the campsite making sure you leave it as it was before you came. Bring your trash with you.

Enjoy the campfire, enjoy nature and enjoy the trip; this really is an excellent family treat!
